Get board-certified in Addiction Medicine

Physicians with an active medical license and primary board certification may be eligible for board certification in Addiction Medicine through either fellowship or the time-in-practice pathway.

  • You may be eligible for board certification in Addiction Medicine from the American Board of Preventive Medicine based on your fellowship. Click here to learn more.

    Both the ABPM and AOA board certifications are open to both MDs and DOs from either an ACGME-accredited or AOA-accredited fellowship.

  • You may be eligible for board certification in Addiction Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology based on your fellowship. Click here to learn more.

Have you completed an accredited Addiction fellowship?

  • Within the last 5 years, if you have experienced over 1000 hours in the practice of Addiction Medicine over the course of at least 24 months (not necessarily consecutive), you may be eligible for board certification in Addiction Medicine from the American Osteopathic Association. Open to both MDs and DOs through 2026. Click here to learn more.

  • Within the last 5 years, if you have experienced over 1920 hours in the practice of Addiction Medicine over the course of at least 24 months (not necessarily consecutive), you may be eligible for board certification in Addiction Medicine from the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
